Mystik

Mystik is the live performance and studio recording project of musician, multi-instrumentalist and lifelong artist Peter Loomis.

Peter is an active musician and recording artist, currently living in San Francisco, CA. Having been in the city since the year 2000, he has had many opportunities to perform and collaborate over the years with various crews, parties, DJs, friends and collaborators.

Nowadays he still participates in several ongoing music projects including Mystik (solo project), Mystik Luminate, The Loomii, Trilobyte and more. You can find out more about each different project below.

The Mystik solo project is oriented around Peter’s own musical performance, production and DJ efforts.

Early Days in Chicago

Starting off “in the scene” first as a dancer and music enthusiast, for Peter the overall groove and vibe of the music and event is paramount. This follows in line with Peter’s theatrical and performance based training as well where the bond of trust created by performer and audience is one that should be respected and especially maintained and nurtured during an event.

Studying theater in University at Northwestern in Evanston, IL, he was on Chicago’s doorstep and enjoyed many a foray into the various clubs of the underground there. Very few memories actually pierce through the fog…one of the first was Mad Dog (or Red Dog?), House of Blues, The Shelter, Belmont Theater, too many undergrounds & warehouses to remember or mention…

New York City

After University and splitting time between Milwaukee and Chicago, Peter went East to New York City. It was here that DJ Mystik was born as he started DJing in his friend’s Murray Hill garden apartment, learning his way around a basic Numark mixer and experimenting with vinyl.

Not too long passed before Peter had bought his own Numark Mixer (2002X) and two Technics SL1200s. By day he was scouring the likes of downtown NYC record shops like Sonic Grooves, Satellite, House of Trance and more looking for tracks he was hearing out at Twilo and the Roxy on the weekends.

Mystik got a Korg Electribe also while out in NYC and recorded several mixtapes including Future Politik, Year of the Ram, Dreamland, Vibrations, In The Groove, Invisible, and several demo-specific mixtapes and CDs.

The Loomii

After moving west to San Francisco in the year 2000, Peter started working with his brother Dave on their project as The Loomii. During this time, the Mystik project evolved as Peter’s production skills and performance experience deepened with The Loomii, landing several festival appearances, live shows at campouts and other public and private events on the West Coast. Eventually, the duo turned from live PAs towards studio production and focused efforts on several singles featured on compilations and eventually released their debut album, rebranding their project as Mystik Luminate.

Mystik has remixed several tracks for Bay Area dance musician Jason Knight via his connection with mutual friend and label owner at Keyframe Entertainment.

Radio Explore

From 2006 to 2016, Mystik was a resident on local Bay Area underground online radio show Radio Explore with founder Spacelotus (Phamily Gathering) and other residents including RayRayJones, Hans Grüver and Steve Madera to name a few.

Gatos Negros

Around 2015 or 2016, Mystik collaborated with DJ Scottino (djscottino.com), Carlos Caminos (caminosmusic.com) and chanteuse Joanna Fassl on an electro-acoustic quartet called Gatos Negros. They started doing improv jams at the Black Hammer Brewing Company in SF’s SoMa neighborhood and eventually rehearsed a handful of songs for fun, recording a bit and performing at the Black Hammer a couple times.
