About

Mystik Sound

Mystik Sound is a commercial front for the wide variety of music and spectrum of sound produced and directed by veteran recording artist Peter Loomis. Our work applies more of an emphasis on pure sound design and focuses on more commercial applications for sonic and audio production.

History

Peter began DJing in New York City in 1998. He moved to San Francisco in the year 2000 and started producing and performing all-original dance music, live sets and producing remixes.

Since the early 2000s, Peter has been an active member of the San Francisco audio production community. He has maintained an active solo project (Mystik) as well as a vibrant duo project with his brother Dave (The Loomii & Mystik Luminate).

During his time in SF, Peter was also a resident DJ with an online radio show called Radio Explore from 2006-2016.

He has produced several remixes for various artists and current recording projects are focused on ambient, organic, downtempo electronica, spacey soundtrack work for an indie game project and progressive and psychedelic house, techno and trance.

Background

Mystik has had a musical background since the age of three when he began playing piano and violin. He studied the Suzuki method of violin for seven years, until age ten. Shortly thereafter, he also picked up the trumpet for a year when he joined the school band, which he stayed in through high school. Subsequently he played tenor saxophone for 6 years and also purchased a five piece Ludwig drum set that he set up in his parent’s basement. He played his kit for about 6 years solidly throughout high school and middle school, joining several bands and playing with his brother Dave who played the electric guitar, bass and keyboard, as well. The two brothers continued rocking when Peter was in college, as he came to San Francisco twice during the summers and was able to join Dave in his studio, laying down beats and visiting San Francisco’s many rock clubs.

Electronic Dance Music

After university, Peter went to New York City where he worked for several years. There he developed the Mystik persona and began learning to DJ based on the transformative experiences he had with electronic music at some of Chicago’s legendary underground parties.

He gravitated towards house, techno, progressive and psychedelic trance music in New York, and got his first drum machine, the Korg Electribe ER1 after DJing for a few years. Mystik progressed into dance production when he moved West to live in San Francisco, CA and began a project called THE LOOMII with his brother and long-time musical partner Dave (aka Luminate).

The Loomii & Mystik Luminate

The two brothers developed their own style of composition and live performance based on the gear they were working with, which at first consisted of dual groove box setups. Mystik began using a Yamaha RM1X and his Korg Electribe running through a NanoVerb and NuMark 3 channel DJ mixer. On the other side, Luminate had a Yamaha RS7000 paired with a Roland SP808 sampler and a Xone 92 mixer.

The Loomii have performed at various festivals throughout California and up the West Coast and underground parties in and around the Bay Area, as early as 2002. Their unique form of live PA with the dueling groove box setups led to the composition and live performance of many classics like Om, Crescent, Earthen, Starchild.

The Loomii have been releasing singles on SF based labels Keyframe Entertainment and Geomagnetic and have also completed and self-released their own debut album release, as well as several follow up EPs. The brothers are renaming their original project to MYSTIK LUMINATE for their album and future releases, giving expression to each contributors’ musical identities.

Radio Explore

Mystik was also a resident DJ with Radio Explore, an online radio station formerly based out of San Francisco. He performed regularly on a live online broadcast every other Thursday night that occurred from 9 PM – 12 AM PST between 2006 and 2016. The show is no longer active.
